When the iPad 2 officially went on sale online at 1AM PST on March 11, 2011, within hours the shipping time was changed from 3-5 business days to 2-3 weeks. After 5PM, when Apple Retail Stores began selling the iPad 2, and early in the morning of March 12th, the shipping times were again pushed back to 3-4 weeks for some models.
The online shipping delays mimic that what users are finding in store, with many Apple Stores almost completely sold out of 3G models and 64 GB WiFi models. Some stores have 16 GB and 32 GB WiFi models in Black available, but stock is running thin.
Apple staffers have further indicated that many retail stores received fewer iPad 2 devices than expected, an unfortunate reality for the many people waiting outside to purchase.
While Apple most likely has separate iPad 2 inventory on stand-by for the March 25th Canadian launch, these USA shipping delays and long lines are likely to occur on Canadian shores as well.
If you’re planning to wait until March 25th for your iPad 2, make sure you’re at your chosen retailer early.
